Hello

I have the this laptop with an audio problem, when playing audio over the speakers it will cut out every couple of seconds, when using headphones it will play fine. I have swapped the speakers with working ones and the issue still persists.

The audio codec is ALC3314, the board layout is very similar to the Pavilion 14-DV. Below are some measurements when audio is playing and when it is not. Thanks

Speaker connector
Audio playing
1= 2.6V (5V when audio cuts out)
2= 2.6V (5V when audio cuts out)
3= 2.6V (0V when audio cuts out)
4= 2.6V (0V when audio cuts out)
5= gnd
6= 3.3v

No audio playing
1= 5V
2= 5V
3= 0V
4= 0V
5= gnd
6= 3.3V

Diode mode
1= 0.489
2= 0.489
3= 0.515
4= 0.515
5= gnd
6= 0.531

Download the drivers listed for this model from HP site, you can use the SN numbers on the bottom cover. It is a good practice to first use DDU in Safe Mode to uninstall current AUDIO driver, then restart the device and without connecting to internet install the drivers from manufacturer site. Sometime WU drivers are not fully supporting audio effects such as Intel Smart Sound etc. Also You can uninstall Intel GPU drivers and install fresh ones. This problem is popular in W11, so it can be that easy ;)

Try to run the laptop with a LiveCD linux distro, any will do, personally I recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint - let's try to rule out the driver issue for now.

Tried a live USB with latest Ubuntu version and the problem still persists, on speakers sound is cutting out about every 2-3 seconds, but plays fine through headphones.

It is looking more like a hardware issue.

Have You checked the socket that You plug speakers in? The pins on this socket are really fragile and can be easily bent sometimes causing similar problems.

If the socket is fine, then I would replace the whole audio chip.

Yes the speaker connector looks fine, no bent pins, all solder is looking good.

The audio codec is ALC3314, i think i have some scrap 14-DV board with same IC. Is it worth taking measurements from the IC before replacing?

I found a doner IC (ALC3314 LC16FH1 GL51A2) from a scrap board and replaced the original IC (ALC3314 91GHH1 GL39A2) and the audio seems to be working fine now with no cutouts etc.

Thank you for your input.
